Our church has been temporarily been on Sunday evenings all summer (while we finish our new building, yay), which means that Sunday mornings are actually pretty easy around here these days. It's lovely, if I'm honest. This Sunday morning we went out for a family breakfast, and then picked up Zack and spent the day lounging. Lounging doesn't happen often around here, and I think we should change that.
Some Thoughts on Mercy (hint: this is long, and from July 2013, but could not be more relevant today).
Portraits of Reconciliation
On Charming My Teen - Beth Woolsey (I love this idea, and definitely want to do it for Jayci!)
Another idea I love - Back to School Benedictions - Osheta Moore
3 Ways To Not Hate Your Husband
Why It Doesn't Matter How You Feel About Your Friends
25 Ways to Ask Your Kids "So how was school today?" Without Asking "So how was school today?" (because Jayci answers with as few words as I can imagine when I ask her about her day at school)
Kids Were Here (inspired my august 27th picture)
We hosted a night this week for our boys to talk about their feelings on the Mike Brown and Ferguson stuff. We bribed the boys to come with 200 hot wings, and lots of pizza. But turns out they were ready and willing to talk. Even if we didnt have any answers, at least the boys had a space to be heard.
That said, here are two more good reads about Ferguson-related issues.
The Parable of the Unjust Judge or: Fear of a Nigger Nation
When Whites Just Don't Get It
I've been reading all-of-the-things lately. A few books I finished in the last couple weeks:
An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith
Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration (loved this one)
The Selection (the whole series)
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Major Pettigrew's Last Stand (one of my new favs)
This last one had me locked away in my room all day yesterday. The children built large forts in the living room, while the boys and Adam perched on surfaces not used for said fort-building and watched football loudly. I managed to finish all in one day, and I loved getting lost in a story so completely. Also, sometimes I love a good cry - Me Before You
